Troglodytic sites of the Loire Valley

Make use of your stay at the hotel to visit the troglodytic sites of the Val de Loire; an original and mysterious discovery.

Saumur counts various villages sculpted in the stone.  These cavities, former tuffeau quarries situated in the plains or against the hills, were sculpted to become true dwelllings, mushroom farms and wine cellars.

This visit will take you to the troglodytic site of Pierre et Lumière in Saint-Hilaire-Saint-Florent. Here you can admire the most beautiful monuments of the Val de Loire sculpted between the escarps.

Also visit the surprising Troglodytic Cathedrrals of Perrières in Doué-la-Fontaine.

Finally, the troglodytic village of Rochemenier, at 24 km from Saumur, is also worth a visit. Discover these former farms sculpted in the rocks; an exhibition site of hundreds of farmer tools and furniture. The site also houses a courtyard with rural animals and an underground chapel.
